I've Been Thinking:
Jerry Stiller died in his home on the Upper West Side of Manhattan less than one month shy of his 93rd birthday.
Stiller was a legend. A true comedic actor and personality.
And yet, he is best known for being a father. Ben Stiller’s father, who announced his death. And George Costanza’s father, his TV son on the hit show Seinfeld where he was part of the ensemble from 1993-1998.
Jerry Stiller, together with his wife Anne Meara who died in 2015 and with whom he regularly performed, had an enormously successful career. The endearing and very funny couple joked that they would end their act before it ended their marriage.
Stiller was a comedian’s comic.
And because Seinfeld is still running in re-runs and on demand, Jerry Stiller is known to younger viewers as the ultimate Jewish father of a neurotic Jewish son.
I will miss seeing this small man with a big personality saunter through our Manhattan neighborhood.
