46 Leaders Visit Israel

Tuesday January 21, 2020

I've Been Thinking:

Forty-six presidents, kings and prime ministers will visit Israel this week.
That number is truly impressive.

The United States is being represented by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The last time so many leaders converged in Israel was in 2017 and the occasion was the funeral of Shimon Peres who served the country as both prime minister and president.

Actually, fewer high level dignitaries came for the Peres funeral than are coming this week.

Israel is marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp. The official ceremony will take place on Thursday at Yad Vashem, the national Holocaust memorial and educational center in Jerusalem.

The central theme of this memorial event will be confronting anti-Semitism.

No other country in the world could successfully invite that many leaders to attend a memorial and receive so many positive responses. It shows how important and well respected Israel is and it shows how important the fight against anti-Semitism is.

Again, truly impressive.
